Sterol metabolism and homeostasis in plants.

Presented by: Hubert Schaller

Synopsis

The objective of the presentation is to provide the audience with interesting specificities of sterol pathways in photosynthetic organisms, which display astonishing variations in their sterolomes with respect to well-known and studied mammalian models.

About Hubert Schaller

Hubert Schaller defended a PhD at the Université Louis Pasteur in 1992 on the « Selection and characterization of tobacco mutants resistant to inhibitors of sterol biosynthesis » under the supervision of Prof. P. Benveniste. He did a postdoc in Plant Molecular Biology and Genetics at the Max Planck Institute in Köln, Germany, in 1993/1994. Before that he worked as a visiting Research Associate at the University Malaya (UM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1989/1990, in field botany and phytochemistry, on a program coined “A New Phytochemical Survey of Malaysia”. He was hired as a CNRS scientist at the IBMP in 1994. He develops his research on Plant Isoprenoid Biology since 2006 as a team leader. The goal of the team is to provide a refined understanding of critical roles of sterol lipids and the regulation of sterol pathways in plant biological processes.
