Disruption PhenotypeNo visible phenotype under normal growth conditions, but plants contain reduced levels of aliphatic glucosinolates. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19542295, ECO:0000269|PubMed:19633020}.
FunctionPlastidic transporter involved in the biosynthesis of aliphatic glucosinolates by translocating the biosynthetic intermediates of Met-derived glucosinolates across chloroplast membranes. Transports short chain (C2) alpha-keto acids, such as 4-methylsulfanyl-2-oxobutanoic acid, from the cytosol to the chloroplast where they are subjected to chain elongation cycles. Functions also in the transport of chain-elongated (C3 to C8) Met derivatives from the chloroplast to the cytosol. Does not seem to be involved in the transport of indole-derived glucosinolates. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19542295, ECO:0000269|PubMed:19633020}.
InductionBy wounding and methyl jasmonate (MeJa). Down-regulated by salicylic acid (SA). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19542295}.
Sequence CautionSequence=AAK91464.1; Type=Frameshift; Positions=127; Evidence={ECO:0000305}; Sequence=CAB40944.1; Type=Erroneous gene model prediction; Evidence={ECO:0000305}; Sequence=CAB78246.1; Type=Erroneous gene model prediction; Evidence={ECO:0000305};
SimilarityBelongs to the bile acid:sodium symporter (BASS) (TC 2.A.28) family. {ECO:0000305}.
Subcellular LocationMembrane {ECO:0000305|PubMed:19542295}; Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO:0000305|PubMed:19542295}. Plastid, chloroplast envelope {ECO:0000305|PubMed:19542295}.
Tissue SpecificityWidely expressed. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19542295}.
