Comment typeDescription
Disruption PhenotypeWorms exhibit premature cell cleavage during embryogenesis, symmetrical cell division during gonadogenesis and undifferentiated intestines. Embryos show a defect in centrosome positioning that delays ABar spindle alignment and appear to lack endoderm.
FunctionAntagonistic role in the Wnt signaling pathway that operates in embryogenesis. When located at the cortex it has been shown to inhibit Wnt signaling during asymmetric cell division but when relocated to the nucleus it shows positive regulation. Has a role in blastomere signaling during endoderm specification. Activates lit-1-dependent kinase activity. Wrm-1/lit-1 complex promotes phosphorylation, down-regulation and subcellular relocation of pop-1. Can substitute for bar-1 indicating functional redundancy. Appears to have a role in centrosome positioning and can activation transcription in yeast. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10380924, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11560894, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11807036, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15066285, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15572126, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16077003, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16890160, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17276345, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9288750}.

SimilarityContains 1 ARM repeat.
Subcellular LocationCytoplasm, cell cortex . Nucleus {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16077003, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17276345}. Note=Located in the anterior cell cortex before and during asymmetric cell division. After division, located preferentially in the nucleus of the posterior daughter cell.
SubunitInteracts (independently of ARM repeat) with nhr-25. Interacts (via N-terminus) with lit-1; activates lit-1 kinase activity and the wrm-1/lit-1 dimer phosphorylates pop-1 which promotes pop-1 interaction with par-5 and translocation of pop-1 from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10380924, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11560894, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16890160}.
Tissue SpecificityExpressed in the developing cells of the embryo including hypodermal cells, neuroblasts, and mesodermal cells.
