The ‘ABC’ Approach to Exploring the Fascinating World of Bacterial Lipids

Presented by: Xueli Guan

Synopsis

In this webinar, we will explore a combinatorial approach integrating analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and computation (“ABC”) to solve complex lipid structures and revisit the biochemistry of lipids in bacteria, with relevance to human health and disease.

About Xueli Guan

Xueli Guan is the Head of the Metabolomics Platform at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her work focuses on advancing and promoting metabolomics and lipidomics technologies to support and empower the broader metabolic research community. She earned her PhD from the National University of Singapore. In 2011, she received the prestigious Ambizione career grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation and became a Junior Group Leader of Lipidomics and Systems Biology at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute. In 2015, Xueli returned to Singapore as an Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological University. Her research focused on developing novel strategies to characterize microbial lipidome, and to understand the variations and functions of microbial lipids in relation to human health and antimicrobial resistance. Xueli also plays an active role in the scientific community as part of the International Lipidomics Society, and its Microbial Lipids Interest Group Steering Committee, to promote collaboration and standardization in the rapidly expanding field.
