Experimental Data
View studies in the NIH Metabolomics Data Repository on the Metabolomics Workbench containing 20 or more detected lipids. One can browse, search, download and analyze lipidomics data from approximately 1000 studies involving over 80 different species in this public repository.

Upload and Manage Experimental Data via the Metabolomics Workbench
The NIH Common Fund's National Metabolomics Data Repository (NMDR) accepts metabolomics data for small and large studies on cells, tissues and organisms via the Metabolomics Workbench. The Metabolomics Workbench also provides a suite of tools for analysis and visualization of the data.
An option to keep the data private until a user-specified embargo date is available at the time of upload; researchers are notified prior to data being released to the public; and the embargo date may be modified by e-mailing the NMDR.
Please visit the Metabolomics Workbench for detailed instructions and tutorials. An overview of the process is outlined below.
Requirements for depositing data via the Metabolomics Workbench
- Register for a Metabolomics Workbench account and request authorization to upload data - either by checking the "I wish to be authorized to upload data" box on the registration form or e-mailing the NMDR at help@metabolomicsworkbench.org.
- Log in to the Metabolomics Workbench.
- Use the online tool to map current metabolite identifications (where possible) to the corresponding RefMet names (strongly encouraged, but not strictly required).
- Use Metabolomics Workbench interfaces to register your study; submit metadata and processed data; and upload raw data and any supplementary material.
Accessing and reviewing deposited data/metadata on the Metabolomics Workbench
After the NMDR has processed your dataset (typically less than 14 days), you will be notified and given access to view your study on a private website. A DOI will also be assigned to the study. After you have reviewed your dataset and communicated with the NMDR, the study will be placed on the public Metabolomics Workbench website (subject to its embargo date, if any).
