The LIPID MAPS meeting will take place at the Scripps Seaside Forum of the University of California San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography, located at 8610 Kennel Way (formerly Discovery Way), La Jolla, CA 92037.
La Jolla Shores Hotel
A block of hotel rooms has been reserved and will be offered at special UCSD rates — $149 for garden view rooms, $179 for coast view rooms, and $209 for beach view rooms — at the La Jolla Shores Hotel, 8110 Camino Del Oro, La Jolla, CA 92037 (at Avenida de la Playa). Reservations can be made via their online reservation form using the group code: lipidmaps2011 (in the special rates section) or by calling the hotel at (800) 237-5211 (make sure to ask for a room in the LIPID MAPS block). Rooms are limited, are on a first-come-first-served basis, and the rate guarantee expires April 1, 2011, so please make your hotel reservations as early as possible. If you are interested in finding another attendee with whom to share a room, please contact Masada Disenhouse at (858) 822-5853 or mdisenhouse@ucsd.edu. |
Transportation between the Hotel and the Seaside Forum
The hotel is about a fifteen minute walk from the Scripps Seaside Forum, and we will also have a shuttle available to transport meeting participants from the hotel to the forum and back — see Shuttles, below.
Parking
At the Scripps Forum there is no public parking lot. You cannot park in the forum parking lots unless you have received a special permit from us — otherwise you will be ticketed by UCSD.
Local attendees and others who are driving should park at Kellogg Park, a public park at the beach (see our map) that is about a 10 minute walk from the meeting space. We will have a shuttle pick up from this parking lot, at the entrance (see shuttle schedule below).
For UCSD parking permit holders, there is also a UCSD shuttle between campus and SIO that you can take if you wish to park on campus. Make sure to allow sufficient time. You can also park in the Birch Aquarium parking lot with a UCSD permit which is a 10 minute walk.
For those who arrive early there is also some nearby street parking available.
Shuttles
For those meeting attendees who prefer to ride a shuttle we will have a shuttle pick up passengers at the hotel (1) and at the Kellogg Park parking lot (2):
- At the La Jolla Shores Hotel, 8110 Camino Del Oro (at Avenida de la Playa).
- At Kellogg Park entrance — corner of Camino del Oro and Calle Frescota (free public parking lot).
Shuttle pickup times
Shuttles will pick up passengers from the La Jolla Shores Hotel and the Kellogg Park parking lot in the mornings and drop off in the evenings. Shuttles will leave the hotel in the morning at 7:15, 7:30 and 7:45 am both mornings of the meeting. These shuttles will also pick up anyone waiting at the Kellogg Park parking lot en route to the Scripps Seaside Forum. They will also be available to take you back to the hotel/parking lot at the end of dinner on Monday, May 2 (around 8 pm), and the end of the meeting on Tuesday, May 3 (around 4:30 pm).
Transportation in the San Diego area
The hotel and the UCSD campus are about 15 miles (20-30 minutes) north of San Diego International Airport. Information about the airport and local transportation is available San Diego International Airport web site.
Meeting Times for Travel and Lodging Planning
The meeting will run 8 AM - 8 PM (including dinner) on Monday, May 2, and from 8 AM - 4:30 PM on Tuesday, May 3.
